THE MO - ADVERTISING MATERIALS

ISTD (INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF TYPOGRAPHICAL DESIGN) SUBMISSION
TIMES ONLINE - WORK PLACEMENT

This project included full branding of a make-believe exhibition, and various advertising collateral. I designed a bespoke exhibition guide, flyers, posters and a
flash website. I printed and bound the book myself, and found all relevent copy from various sources.

The exhibition was influenced by the melting ice caps in Greenland, and I focused on this for the design process. I used colour, gradients and specialised paper types to portray ice and evanesce. You can especially see this through the website design, if you click on the thumbnail to the left.

This was completed in my final year of degree work.

Programs used:
InDesign CS4, Photoshop CS4, Flash CS3.

I have recently been doing some volunteer work at The Mo - a museum in Sheringham, Norfolk - for whom I designed an family-oriented advert to be included in various local publications. The final version is in the centre.

The poster on the right was for a themed day in Sheringham, aimed at 6-13 year olds. I wanted it to be fun, but not alienate parents, who are the decision makers! I drew the illustrations myself as the
client didn't want to include stock images.

Programs used:
Illustrator CS3, Photoshop CS3.

In my third and final year at University I entered into a competition with the ISTD. I designed three concertina books with the title '6 Degrees'. They each took a different parrallel (rich and poor, man and woman, black and white) and linked them in 6 steps. I researched each step thoroughly in order to represent it correctly, through typography.

During this project I learnt a lot about the history of type and typefaces, as well as exploring the use of folds within books.

Programs used:
Photoshop CS4, Indesign CS4

In the summer before I did my final year at University, I did a three week work placement at Times Online.

During the placement I created site 'furniture' for everyday use on the Times Online website. This included Flash animations advertising various offers, and static links to different pages within the site.

The placement really opened my eyes to the world of designing for online publishing.

Software used:
Photoshop CS4, Flash CS4
